Wood River Fire Department
Notice is given that the Board of Fire Commissioners for the City of Wood River will conduct eligibility testing for the
position of Probationary Firefighter / EMT. Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time of application and under 35 years of age allowed by Illinois Revised Statute regulations. Applicants must possess either an Illinois Certified FF II Certification, Illinois Basic Operations Firefighter Certification, or NFPA 1001 Firefighter I Equivalency & an Illinois IDPH E.M.T.-B or higher license or National Registry E.M.T. – B or higher Certificate of License at time of employment.
Applicants must also possess a valid driver’s license and meet all Illinois Revised Statutes regulations. Residency will be required within one year of employment. Applicants, if
accepted will be subject to a written examination, extensive background investigation, CPAT physical agility test which will include a valid 35 ft. ladder climb certificate, psychological
evaluation and oral interview by the Board of Fire & Police Commissioners. Starting February 25th, 2019 application
packets may be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office, 111 N. Wood River Ave. Wood River, Illinois 62095 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
Application packets must be completed and returned to the City Clerk’s Office by 4:00 PM on Friday March 15th, 2019.
A mandatory orientation meeting will be held Wednesday April 3th, 2019 at 6:30 PM at the Wood River Fire Department
located at 501 E. Edwardsville Rd. and the written exam will be conducted on Saturday April 6th at 9:00 AM at the same
location. Applicants who pass the written exam and meet the other requirements outlined will be scheduled for an oral
interview on the evening of Wednesday May 8rd, 2019 at
501 E. Edwardsville Rd. (Wood River Fire Dept.) The City of Wood River is an equal opportunity employer.
