Probationary Firefighter / EMT
Notice is given by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the City of Wood River, the City will conduct testing to establish a 2-year eligibility list for the position of full-time Probationary Firefighter / EMT.
Requirements to Test for Eligibility List
Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time of application and under 35 years of age, unless otherwise allowed by Illinois Revised Statute.
Applicants must be a permanent, legal resident of the United States.
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
Applicants must have no felony convictions.
Applicants must have the ability to meet job related physical requirements.
At Time of Employment or Offer
Applicants must possess an Illinois Firefighter II or Illinois Basic Operation Firefighter Certification, or NFPA 1001 Firefighter I equivalency.
Applicants must possess a current Illinois E.M.T.-B or higher medical
license, or National Registry equivalency.
Paramedic license will get additional preference points.
Residency will be required within one year of employment.
Applicants, if accepted will be subject to a written examination, extensive background investigation, CPAT physical agility test which will include a
valid 35 ft. ladder climb certificate, psychological evaluation and oral
interview by the Board of Fire & Police Commissioners.
Application packets may be downloaded at www.woodriver.org or picked up at the Wood River City Clerk’s Office beginning February 22nd, 2021, between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
City Clerk’s Office is located at 111 N. Wood River Ave. Wood River, IL 62095
Application packets must be completed and returned to the Wood River City Clerk’s Office by
Friday March 19th, 2021 at 5:00 pm.
A mandatory orientation will be held at the Wood River Fire
Wednesday April 7th, 2021 at 6:30 pm.
A written exam will be conducted at the Wood River Fire Department on Saturday April 10th, 2021 at 9:00 am.
Both the mandatory orientation and written exam will be completed at the Wood River Fire Department
located at 501 E. Edwardsville Rd. Wood River, IL 62095
Applicants that successfully pass the written exam and meet the
outlined requirements will be scheduled for oral interviews on
Wednesday May 5th, 2021, with times to be determined.
Applicant MUST present a current C.P.A.T card and Ladder Climb
endorsement at this time.
