Building and Electrical
The City of Jacksonville (population 20,000) is seeking
qualified applicants for the position of Building and Electrical Inspector. This full time position reports to the Community
Development Director and will be the primary staff person
responsible for all commercial and residential plan reviews,
inspections, and enforcement of all other codes as applicable. This position coordinates architects, developers, contractors and the general public through code interpretations, zoning regulations, ordinances, and all related issues. Qualified
candidates must possess a thorough knowledge of the
International Code series, the National Electrical Code,
Zoning ordinances, and acceptable workmanship, methods and materials. Certifications including, but not limited to, ICC Plans Examiner, IRC Residential Inspector, IBC Commercial Inspector are highly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or
university in Engineering, Construction, or related field, is
preferred. Five to ten years progressively responsible related experience required. Experience in municipal or county
government and construction trades a plus. In addition, this position requires excellent organization skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate both verbally and in
writing with residents, business owners, builders, city staff, elected officials and architects/engineers.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and
experience which provides the required knowledge, skills,
and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
will be considered. A valid State of Illinois
driver’s license is mandatory.
Salary commensurate with experience, certification/education, competitive benefit package. Residency in Jacksonville
required within 6 months of hire.
