JACKSONVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT:
ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN THE QUALIFICATIONS
FOR THE POSITION OF FIREFIGHTER &
APPLICATION AND TEST DATES

Application packet will be available beginning September 23rd, 2019
Application deadline will be at 4:00 p.m. October 25th, 2019
Current Qualifications: Required for testing
Must be 21 at the time of testing and have not attained the age of 35, Must be a United States citizen, Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, Have no felony convictions, Applicants with eyesight restrictions must comply with NFPA 1582 – 20/30 corrected, Valid CPAT card/with ladder climb, valid driver’s license, valid EMT-B License.
New Qualification: For permanent position with the JFD Candidate must obtain a valid and current Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)paramedics (EMT-P) license prior to time of hire.
Additional preference points will be awarded to the applicant in the following areas:
Military service in the armed Forces with an honorable discharge
An Associate’s Degree in a fire related field or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
Valid Paramedics license
Employment – firefighters or firefighters-paramedics employed full-time by a fire protection
district or by another municipality for at least two (2) years.
Examination is for the purpose of establishing an eligibility list for the position of
Firefighter/Paramedic. Eligibility list will remain in effect for two (2) years.
